The Sweet Taste of Success!

Well, in our case it was the salty taste of success, but that works too!  For some reason last night was SO busy but we were still able to squeeze in a FHE during our Hamburger Helper dinner.  :)

It was fun to talk about the story on pgs. 20-21 and play The Dinner game!  My kids loved hearing we were playing a game at the dinner table since we're a very strict no playing and no toys at the table kind of family.  But I hope we play this game a lot.

All I did was describe stories from the scriptures and see if my kids could guess who I was talking about.  I wish I could say my kids know tons of stories and prophets by name, but we're on the baby-stepping plan for gospel study. :)  So last night we talked about 4 people...

1. This little boy got lost when he went to the big city, but his parents found him in the temple.  When he grew up he was killed on the cross but was alive again after three days.  Who was he?  (Jesus)

My little girl was so excited about guessing this one right!

2. This person built a ship to cross the ocean, even though his brothers were making fun of him.  He also got the brass plates so we could have the scriptures.  Who was he?  (Nephi)

Again, extremely excited kids!

3. This person has the same birthday as someone in our family (true!), likes poems and stories, and is the prophet of our church today.  (President Monson!)

Cheers!  At hearing President Monson my son told me the prophet had two friends.  Then he went and got a picture he had and showed me the two friends, Pres. Eyring and Pres. Uchtdorf. LOL  That led to our final mystery person...

 4. This person was very poor when he was young.  There was a war going on where he lived which made times hard.  He hoped some day he would get to have a desk to study at and books to read. (OK, my kids couldn't say his name, but we are working on it.)

It was fun to tie into this lesson what we had learned earlier this month about Pres. Uchtdorf.  The best part about this was seeing how excited and happy my children were.  Isn't that the best part of parenting?  Seeing our children learn, and be proud of themselves is what makes the diaper-changing, cheerios-cleaning and general state of chaos all worth it!

We ended with a song and then played with the plastic animals and dinosaurs together for our activity.  It was a great, simple night because I was prepared.  I had read the story in advance and was able to "wing it" from there. :)  Remember that a minute or two studying a church magazine or scripture is never wasted time.  It is fueling your mind with more things to teach your children and strengthen your family.  Remember, the gospel is true!  Have a great day! Luv, Eva
