Making Maps to Our Heavenly Home...

Here is a fun, simple activity we did this week for FHE that also taught a lesson.  There are a few articles in this month's issue of The Friend that talk about paths, including President Uchtdorf's "Following The Savior's Path" and the activity entitled "Follow The Path".  Along this theme we used Elder Scott's "What Can I Do To Follow Heavenly Father's Plan For Me?" to do the following activity...

First we printed out the pictures from the article and cut them out.

Next we cut a large brown paper grocery bag into two rectangles so they could each have an older looking "map."

Then I had them draw a little picture of themselves and a path...

Along the path we drew images of things they want to do in their lives like get baptized, go to school, go to church and get married in the temple.

We then glued the pictures from the article along the path they drew because doing those things are also part of God's plan for us and will help us stay on the path.

Finally at the end we drew our own mansion in heaven... My daughter also wanted to draw herself with President Monson. :)

This was a fun activity that kept their interest and taught important principles.  My little boy loved his map, and even rolled it up into a scroll with the help of a rubber band so he could take it to his friend's house- too cute!

I know that it's just as important for me to do the things that will keep me on the path.  Teaching my children to read their scriptures, learn from the prophets at General Conference and be worthy of the Holy Ghost reminds me to do so too. I hope and pray we can make a little time each day to teach your children the eternal principles that will bring true happiness.  Remember, The Gospel is true!  It IS worth it!  Love, Eva
